Support & FAQ

Most questions are covered below. If not — email us.

Getting started

How do I save an item?
Press Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+S on any page. The popup opens pre-filled with the page title. Add intent (what it's for), optionally a date, and pick a space. Hit Save.
What's the difference between link, task, and note?
They're just categories. Links have a URL and open in a new tab when clicked. Tasks have a completion checkbox and the completion animation. Notes are freeform text — no URL required.
What are spaces?
Spaces are folders for your items — projects, topics, or life areas. Each gets a color and icon. The Inbox is always there by default; everything else is yours.
Where do I find my saved items?
On the new tab: Home shows recent + Today rail; Today view shows what's scheduled today; Upcoming groups future items by date; Library groups everything by space.

Sync & storage

What does sign-in add?
Cloud sync across devices, up to 500 items (vs. 100 locally), 30 screenshots. All free.
What happens if I sign out?
Local data stays on your device. Cloud data is retained in your account for when you sign back in.
Where's my data stored?
Without sign-in: chrome.storage.sync (local, Chrome-encrypted, up to 100KB). With sign-in: Supabase Postgres + Supabase Storage, TLS in transit and at rest, row-level security.

Screenshots

How do screenshots work?
Click the Screenshot button inside the save popup, or right-click on a page →Save to Tabgrove with screenshot. You can capture the full tab or select a region. Up to 5 screenshots per item.
Does Tabgrove take screenshots automatically?
No. Every screenshot is user-initiated. There is no background capture.
How many screenshots can I take?
Up to 30 total. Screenshots are stored in Supabase when you're signed in, so the limit helps keep the service sustainable.

Privacy & security

Does Tabgrove read my browsing activity?
No. The extension only reads the active tab's title and URL when you explicitly trigger the save popup. The optional history permission is off by default; if enabled, it reads your top sites locally for the shortcuts row — nothing leaves your device.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes. Local data lives in Chrome's encrypted chrome.storage.sync. Signed-in data is in Supabase with TLS in transit and encryption at rest.
What permissions does the extension need?
Storage (to save items), Identity (for sign-in), activeTab (to read the current tab when you save), contextMenus (for right-click save), scripting (for the screenshot region overlay). History is optional.
How do I delete my account?
Without sign-in: uninstall the extension. If you signed in: email [email protected] and we'll delete your Supabase account and all synced data.

Troubleshooting

My items aren't syncing between devices
Sync requires sign-in. If you're signed in and something looks stale, try signing out and back in to trigger a full re-hydrate.
I can't install — Chrome Web Store says the extension is unavailable
The extension may be region-locked or in review. Email support and we'll help.
